God was in the details at the first of Iron & Wine's two-night stand Monday at the Vic, but whether or not the higher power was on anyone's side remained up for debate. Lyrically invoking angels, devils and a host of biblical symbols, frontman Sam Beam specialized in ambiguity, making gorgeous music out of sorrowful melodies and telling cryptic stories that left his protagonists' redemption to an uncertain fate. |
