“Any Phone, Any Application”

It is hard to walk down a street any time past 2006 without seeing a cell phone in almost everyone’s ears. The once expensive and foreign-like object from the 70’s has now been modernized, popularized, and widely distributed since it’s invention and has now become recognized as a necessary part of our everyday lives. So when is being accessible blurred with dependence? Well, in common opinion, it already is. But rather than dwelling on our dependency on a guilty pleasure that was unnecessary 30 years ago…our focus should be shifted to the positives.

The line may not be clear, but the service is. With battling companies beginning to merge in recent years (Verizon and Alltel), it is beginning to seem like networking is really all within one giant system. I am by no means Miss Technology, but as an avid cell phone dependent I think that it is safe to say that I don’t see the difference in the name brands…other than charges.

Well, it seems that I am not the only one to think this way. Although it is not set to be released for another year or so, Verizon is launching the new initiative “any phone, any application”. This setup could be really good for consumers for many reasons. Whether it is the fact that you are not limited on phones or contracts, or the fact that rates could go down because you would not be paying between services since there would only be one, the merger would have many benefits.

Although it is quite questionable as to just how successful this will be, it can only be better than what we have now. Our ever-changing economy and society needs something that can keep up and if there were only one service to worry about, as opposed to five or more, the advances following could only be spectacular. In my opinion, all eyes should be on the launch of this initiative.

GPU Acceleration for Flash Player 10.1

NVIDIA accelerates the browsing experience of mobile devices with Adobe Flash Player 10.1

In an age when users want a complete mobile web experience, Adobe has taken an important step in bringing the PC experience on mobile devices: Adobe released the Flash Player 10.1 application, in a partnership with Nvidia, to accelerate their new product on the visual processing unit.

NVIDIA Tegra offers significant improvements in accelerating Flash animations and video performances, but in the same time extending the autonomy of mobile devices. Users now have the chance of accessing more Flash content, for a longer period of time, on their mobile phones, including games, animations, Rich Internet Applications, ecommerce, music, video and others.

” NVIDIA and Adobe have worked together to transform the GPU acceleration for Flash Player 10.1 into reality. Now the two companeis are involved in bringing these performance benefits and power to a new generation of smartphones and tablets with the Tegra technology” said Neil Trevett, VP of mobile Content at NVIDIA.

The application also includes accelerometer support, Smart Zooming and a series of features to make the CPU more efficient and increase the performance of the battery. One of these is Smart Rendering, which allows the running of Flash Content only after it was downloaded and visible on the screen. Sleep mode allows the player to slow down when the device enters in screen saver mode, and also the automatic shutdown of the player when receiving a phone call.

Flash Player 10.1 will be available in the final version for smartphones and tablets for Android 2.2 Froyo, for mobile devices like Dell Streak, Google Nexus One, HTV EVo, HTV Desire, HTC Incredible, DROID by Motorola, Motorola Milestone, Samsung Galaxy S. Flash Player 10.1 is compatible with mobile platforms based on Android, Blackberry, webOS, future versions of Windows Phone, LiMo, MeeGo and Symbian OS. In the following months, it is expected that the application will come pre-installed on a number of smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices.

Toshiba will release the first two screens tablet in the world

The new Toshiba tablet looks like a Nintendo DS.

Toshiba released a new gadget, a table with two screens that looks, design wise, similar to the Nintendo DS.

The company says that this is the first device of it’s kind in the world. W100, as it is named, has an Intel Pentium U5400 1.2 GHZ processor and 2 GB memory. It can have a classical hard drive of 320 GB or an SSD ( solid state drive ) of 62 GB. The battery autonomy should be of 5 hours. W100 has a single USB ports, microSD card reader, a 1 mega pixels web camera and Wi-Fi Connectivity.

The main feature of the tablet is that it comes with two 7 inch screens. One works as a virtual keyboard and both have 1024 x 600 resolution. According to tgdaily.com, the price is estimated at around $1099, Toshiba released the tablet in August.
