As Einstein’s quote states to embrace the whole of nature and its beauty, but at times its hard to see the true beauty in nature, especially with these weird animals. The 10 animals listed are some of the weirdest creatures that inhabit earth. They are one of kind species. The beauty comes from their weirdness that makes them so unique.
Sloth
The sloth lives in Central and South America. Their diet mostly consists of leaves and buds, but also insects, small lizards, and carrion. Since sloths live mostly on leafs, they are very low energy animals. Leafs are very hard to digest, so the sloths have a large, specialized, multiple compartments stomachs that work to digest the leafs.
Star-nosed Mole
Found in wet lowland areas the Star-nosed Mole eats aquatic insects, worms, and small invertebrates. Forages and digs along the bottom of bodies of water. The very noticeable nose of the mole is covered with one hundred touch receptors called Eimer’s organ.
Axolotl
A salamander that is native to Mexico. It belongs to the Tiger Salamander family, but larvae of the Axolotl do not complete metamorphosis, so they remain gilled and aquatic. It can also regenerate most of its body parts.
Aye-aye
Madagascar is the home to this weird creature. It is the largest nocturnal primate. The Aye-aye has rodent-like teeth, and a long and thin middle finger for finding and eating its food. It taps on trees, like a woodpecker, to find grubs, and then it chews holes into the wood. Its long middle finger comes in handy to reach into the hole for the food.
Tarsier
Tarsier’s get their name from their feet having elongated tarsus bones, which help them hang on to branches and for jumping from tree to tree. Tarsier’s are insectivores, but they also may hunt snakes and birds; they catch their meals by jumping at them. Tarsier’s are nocturnal, but may be active during the day.
Platypus
The platypus inhabits Eastern Australia and Tasmania, it is a semi -aquatic mammal. It is a mammal, but it belongs to the monotremes that lay eggs in stead of giving birth. It is also one of the few venomous mammals, the male platypus has a spur on its hind foot that delivers poison.
Tapir
The Tapir inhabits the jungles and forests of South America, Central America, and Southeast Asia. This species is a large browsing mammals. The Tapir are herbivores, it uses its using its long and flexible nose to get into trees and bushes.
Blobfish
Native of the coasts of Australia and Tasmania, the Blobfish is rarely seen by people because its habitat is in inaccessible. The main food source for the Blobfish is whatever edible matter that floats in front of it. Its lack of muscle is an advantage for its living area because it is mainly a gelatin mass that makes it slightly less dense than water so it can float with above sea floor without exerting energy.
Long-eared Jerboa
This Jerboa is found in the deserts of Mongolia and China. It has a long tail, long hind legs for jumping, and exceptionally large ears. Most jerboa’s are primarily herbivores, but the long-eared jerboa’s diet is thought to consist of insects.
Pink Fairy Armadillo
Central Argentina native occupy the dry grassland and sandy plains. As a defense mechanism, it can bury itself in a matter of seconds. If also borrows near ant colonies, so that it is close to its food source. Its main food source is ants and ant larvae.
