Recently, the heirs of a famous ghosts buster from England released to the media a series of 22 controversial ghosts photos in which people appear along side the spirits and ghosts of friends and families! A 100 years old controversy is about to start again!
William Hope ( 1863 – 1933 ) initiated in many occult groups from England, among which the famous Crec Crewe, was a pioneer of the so called “spirit photography ” an area of paranormal phenomenons researchers which takes photos of spirits and ghosts.
When he was a young man, Hope worked as a carpenter, however he made a name for himself in the ranks of paranormal phenomenons enthusiasts ( their numbers increased by the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century ) thanks to his unusual ability to take photos of ghosts. Many people familiar with the occult are saying that Hope was actually the first person to take photos of ghosts.
Hope became the leader of Crec Crewe, a group formed by people that were into the occult arts, and her good friend Sir Arthur Conan Doyle also joined the group, the great police novel writer and the creator of the famous character Sherlock Holmes.
On February 1922, Harry price, another paranormal phenomenons researcher, which had a more skeptical approach of the area, tried during some tests that took place at British College of Psychic Science to prove that the incredible photos with hosts taken by William Hope are fake. Price secretly signed, the photo boards used by Hope with the Imperial Dry Plate logo, this means that every photo made with Hope’s camera should contain this logo. During the experiment with the help of which Hope tried to prove that his photos are real, he produced many photos with spirits, however none contained the secret logo. This is how Price reached the conclusion that Hope changed the original equipment with materials that were already impregnated with the images of spirits, which was then exposed over a few regular photos.
Many people started to defend Hope, political people, intellectuals, his most frequent and avid defender was no other than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who also wrote a book ” The Case For Spirit Photography” to plead in favor of the authenticity of the ghosts photos.
Nowadays, 88 years since the scandal, Hope’s heirs made public a series of 22 ghosts photos, many of them unseen before. Hope’s current defenders say that in 1905, when he became very popular due to his passion, it was practically impossible to modify a photo. Photo editing techniques only appeared with the invention of computers and photo editing software. Even if Hope might have discovered a rudimentary way to edit photos, he couldn’t have “faked” 12 ghosts photos in only a few hours on the day of the experiment.
We invite you to take a look at these photos and, if you want, maybe share your thoughts about them. Enjoy!
