Mozilla is testing a new menu for Firefox 4

Although the deadline until Firefox 4 should be ready, it seams that Mozilla is still experimenting. For example, they haven’t decided about the shape of the unique menu that will come with the new Firefox version.

Users that have already installed the Firefox 4 beta versions have already noticed the fact that the new version joins the trend and removes the classic menus. Instead of them, there will only be a single menu that incorporates the most important features.

If until now the released beta versions had a single column menu, the newest test version ( nightly builds ) are using a two columns menu. As a principle, it looks like the Start menu from Windows.

The first column includes general features like Find, Print or Full Screen. On the second column we can find different component modules like Addons, Bookmarks or Downloads. Some options, like Print or Options also have a submenu.

Sometime during next week the forth Firefox 4 beta version is going to be released. Its possible that this change might appear in this version or it will only appear in Beta 5. Anyway, it seams that Mozilla hasn’t made a definite decision regarding this menu.

Contrary to the belief of those who might think that this is just another detail, the menu of the new Firefox version plays an important role in what the ergonomics of the new web browser is concerned. This because it will only be a single menu and  needs to offer fast access to the most important features.
