Facebook lied about the number of registered users!

Almost one month ago, Facebook announced that they now have more than 500.000.000 registered users, which means around 8% of the total world population.

” Starting this morning, 500 million people from all over the world are active Facebook users. The next milestone, which will probably be 750 million users it not very far away” said Mark Zuckerberg at the end of July.

“  The 500 million users are active members, meaning that they were connected and did at least one operation in their account in the last 30 days”  Facebook is saying, without being able to tell how many physical corespondents are behind the 500 million members.

To be more precise, the numbers provided by Facebook are not taking into consideration the fact that there are people that have multiple accounts. Further more, Facebook separately records the IP addresses of users that are logging in to Facebook.

For example, in Paris, the number of Facebook registered users is more than the entire population of the city.

To be more precise, the number of users from Paris, is according to Facebook of 4.5 million, while according to the official statistics, the number of residents of Paris is only 2.2 million people.

A similar phenomenon takes place in Ile-De-France as well. In this area the numbers offered by Facebook include 10.7 million registered users, which means 92% of the entire population of the region, which also includes elders and very small young children.

The representatives of Facebook admit that there may be errors in the company’s data, because they are basing themselves on the profile information of users.

Facebook is trying to take advantage of the number of registered users and always trying to make surprising announcements regarding it’s audience to attract more online advertising opportunities and increase the company’s value.

Probably it’s just like first aselenization (landing on the moon) in the fight for power between Soviet Union and USA (i believe that video it’s a fake).
Same situation here, obviosly there are millions of users in these social media websites, maybe in the future the number of announced users will be about 7 billions…

  2. The numbers are caused by people logging into Facebook using their mobile phone or work/school/uni/wifi which creates multiple unique ip addresses for each user.

Their numbers are still dodgy though.
