A number of 11 alleged pedophiles from Australia, England and Canada were arrested.
They were discovered with the help of their profiles on Facebook.
” This investigation should be a warning for social networks but also for users” said Neil Gaughan, the Head of the Cyber Crimes Unit for AFP.
” In this case, Facebook initially disabled the accounts of the suspects, however the groups were remade within hours, using new accounts” he also said.
He underlined the fact that it’s very important that social networks permanently monitors the images with kids and to notify the authorities as soon as they detect something like this on their web sites.
In a joint press release with the Australian Police, Julie Sullivan, responsibility with security on Facebook ensured that once illegal activities are identified on Facebook the authorities are notified right away.
The australian police said that in this case, six people from England were arrested, three from Australia and two from Canada.
The investigation continues, including in the US, where the FBI also got involved!
