The Richat Structure it’s a weird circular formation that can be found in the portion of the Sahara desert close to Mauritania. The structure was seen for the first time by the astronauts teams from space, and has a diameter of almost 50 km’s. Initially it was believed – and anyone tends to believe this when the formation is seen for that first time – that it was created following a meteorite impact. However, researchers discovered that it appeared because of a natural phenomenon.
Mount Roraima is located exactly at the border between Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana. What is fascinating about this mountain is it’s shape. This weird shape is practically the sequel of the top of another mountain, being frequently surrounded by clouds, something that only adds to the mystery. Many of the species discovered here by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1596 and then by other researchers haven’t been discovered anywhere else in the world.
Socotra is actually an archipelagos situated in the Indian Ocean, somewhere between Horn and the Arabic Peninsula. The big island Socotra represents almost 85% o the dry surface of the archipelagos, the rest being formed only from small sized islands. because it’s location, one third of the species found here can’t be found anywhere else in the world. Socotra is administrated by Yemen. The Island main revenue source is tourism, one very exclusive because of it’s location. However, who managed to arrive here, knows that the trip has worth it. Socotra seams like a place that is not from Earth.
The Greeks arrived here and described the weird landscapes. In 1507 the island becomes a Portuguese colony and in 1886 it becomes part of Britain. Only in 1967 Yemen wins the Island, invoking the fact that the island is close to them. The island didn’t brought many direct benefits, but they take great pride with it because they know that it’s difficult to discover a place like this anywhere else in the world.
The Tinto River starts form the Sierra Morena mountains. From what you can see in the picture the river’s color is somewhat red because of the big quantities of iron. This is however not the only aspect that makes Tinto weird. The river has a very acid water. The acidity is due to a bacteria that feeds with iron and sulfide. Like this wasn’t enough, researchers said that Tinto is very similar to the underground water on Mars.
Even if they are a feature of Iceland, geysers can be found in other places on Earth. Such an example is the Fly geyser which is close to Gerlach, Nevada. Even if it’s only three meters high, the geyser is growing each day, creating a very beautiful area. What’s interesting is the fact that Fly is on a private property and nobody is allowed to see it up close. The area belongs to Bill Spoo, a person who might have made a fortune because of this. However Bill did nothing and he plans on doing nothing in the future…
