How to set or disable the Aero Peek option in Windows 7

Share

The Aero peek feature is one of the newest features of Windows 7. Go to the lower right corner of the screen ( on the taskbar ) and you will see that after half a second you will be able to see the desktop. But why does it takes half a second ?

You can edit some registry to be able to decrease the time. This way you can make Aero Peek to appear instantly.

Of course, if you want to disable this option it’s very easy. Right click on the Taskbar and choose Properties. From the Taskbar tab remove the Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop option.

If you also want to disable the taskbar icons, then go to Control Panel and choose System Properties. Search for View Advanced System Settings then remove the Enable Aero Peek option.

How to manually edit the registry to reduce time

If you want to modify the time in which the Aero option appears, then you have to manually edit some registry.

Type regedit.exe in the search file of the Start menu then hit Enter. After that go to the following path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Now you have to find the DeskTopLivePreviewHoverTime registry in the right column. If there isn’t any, then you have to create a DWORD registry with this name. Double click on it to edit it. You first need to check the Decimal option, The values are in mini seconds so if you want to last 1 second you have to type 1000. If you want the Aero option to appear instantly then type 0.
