How to disable Program Compatibility Assistant in Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Share

It can be very annoying when the Program Compatibility Assistant feature keeps popping up on your screen just when you want to finish your task fast. Still, this option can be very useful for not so advanced users.

To disable the option click on Start and type services.msc in the search field and then hit Enter.

In the window that opens look for the Program Compatibility Assistant service. When you find it, right click on it and choose Stop.

This will only disable the option for the moment. When you restart your computer, the service will become active again. However if you want to disable it for good, then right click on it and choose Properties. In the General Tab pick Disabled from Startup Type.

You can also disable this option by using the Local Group Policy Editor. To do so, type gpedit.msc in the search filed of the Start menu.

Now go to User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Application Compatibility. In the right area double click on Turn Off Compatibility Assistant.

Now click on Disabled and then puss the Apply button and click OK to save your changes.
