Volkswagen presented new photos of the Phaeton facelift, who now has another chance of success. well, at least in China.
The story of the Phaeton model is already known by everyone and represents a decent enough proof about how hard it is to get a piece of the luxury auto market. Although it doesn’t lack performance and comfort, Phaeton provied to be only a very costly experiment and nothing much. Costly because of the money invested to create the car, and also due to the transparency of the factory in Dresda, especially built by Volkswagen to produce this model.
Volkswagen doesn’t give up, and even if they haven’t announced a successor for Phaeton, it gives the current model another change, through the help of a facelift.
The facelift is represented by the complete change of the front. A new spoiler, a new grill, a new and bigger air vent and head headlights with the LED line in the bottom area. The car looks better, because it already had 7 years of production and this showed. Especially that since then the generation of all competing models have changed. The back is also changed, the tail lights are also based on LED, like the models of other brands.
The interior received some discrete changes, more materials being replaced with other of better quality. It also offers more options to combine colors. Volkswagen puts money in this chapter on the wishes of the clients, announcing nearly limitless personalization limits through the help of the Volkswagen Exclusive department. Phaeton is offered in a version with 3 seats in the back or only 2 individual seats. You can also opt for a longer version, 120 mm longer, for a plus of space and comfort.
Regarding engine, we have a turbo diesel engine and 2 gas engines. The smallest gas engine is a V6 FSI that offers 280 horse power, being followed by a V8, with 335 horse power. At the top, we find the popular W12 6 liter engine, who’s maximum power can reach 450 horse power. The Turbo diesel is the V6, offering 240 horse power. The same engine can be find on many VW and Audi models.
VOlkswagen doesn’t expect miracles from this facelift. It is already clear to them that the Phaeton will not be able to “touch” the BMW 7 series, A8 or S-Klasse, even if the price is much lower. Volkswagen only hopes to recover some of the losses created by this model through a better performance on the Chinese market, a very important one, which is not so pretentious as the European market.
