Written by Tom Tykwer, ( famous for Run Lola Run ) Cloud Atlas is produced by the Wachowsky brothers and represents the on screen transfer of one of the most famous novels of the last decade. Cloud Atlas, written by David Mitchell, was published in 2004, and it is one of the most appreciated recent fiction work, winning prestigious awards like Booker, Nebula or Arthur C. Clarke.
The title refers to the ancient cloud atlas, essential instruments at the beginning of the weather forecast history, but the approach of the author is not scientific, but very philosophical. Written under the form of six interconnected stories, Cloud Atlas will take is in different times and countries, from the Chatham islands from the half of the 19th century to a distant future, post apocalyptic. According to Mitchell, the main characters of each story are reincarnations of the same soul, identified with the help of a birth mark. The cloud refers to the manifestations which are changing on a constant basis, meaning the human nature.
Today we find out that the project attracted a lot of the Hollywood big names. Natalie Portman appears on the cover, and other possible actors might be Hally Berry, Tom Hands, James McAvoy and Ian McKellen.
The filming for this new movie might start by the end of the year, and the movie will be released, most likely, in 2012.
