The StarCraft Brood War is a breath of fresh air on this Blizzard real time strategy game.
Usually, game expansion sets and add-ons are not so great, because they are released by the game developer due to the game’s success and you think that if the expansion set offers just a bit more than the initial game has to offer, then you are happy with it.
And it only costs half of what you paid for the original game, so.. you think that you are happy with it! Well, Blizzard says that we have reasons to be VERY happy with the StarCraft expansion set Brood War because they have treated the expansion pack very well, just like they did with the original game and it doesn’t have that feeling of being just a typical add-on.However, don’t get me wrong, Brood War is not an entirely new game, but it’s a sequel of the original Starcraft story, that brings new units and terrain. By releasing this expansion set, Blizzard provided a breath of fresh air on this everlasting strategy game.
Although it has a lot of new content Brood war is not very much different than the original Starcraft game. Even if the game was released in 1998, it still looks amazing. The new units that were added to Brood War are a perfect match with the old ones, and even if the snow is just a bit too bright, the other sets are very beautiful. We also have to notice the introduction video and the cinemas of that we can see after each completed campaigns, that are more up there with the Starcraft story and, in my opinion, they are very well created, they are touching and very emotional.
Brood War also brings new audio, music and sound effects together with new speech. There is new music for each race, and I can honestly say that the new sounds are better than the ones from the original story.
The exception is made by the Dark Archon, who I think has some “health problems”. Other than that, all the units have great sounds and most of them say funny stuff if you continue to click. Every character that has survived in the original StarCraft story comes back in Brood War with more to say and we also have to say that the voice acting is awesome. The dialogue is very convincing and it can only result in one of the best stories in gaming ever! It continues where the original StarCraft has left off. The plots are very well created.
As I am sure that you already guess by now, the Brood War campaign is harder than the one from the Original StarCraft game. However, the missions are designed brilliantly. On occasion, your tasks in a mission are going to change after you have completed what you set out to do.
However, in some of the cases you can choose your objectives and your decision will affect the rest of that mission. In that new context new units will become available and you can use them to take advantage of their skills.
With Brood War, Blizzard did an amazing job with an already well created strategy game. And they got very good results. Every unit in the game has suffered some modifications.
The original StarCraft game entered the hearts of many. However, with the release of Brood War, StarCraft is here to stay. It was played by many and many still continues to play this wonderful game. My thoughts is that StarCraft II will go on the exact same road that the first StarCraft game did.
