The apes are coming back! Fox announced that Rise of the Apes, which will be directed by Rupert Wyatt, will be released on June 24, 2011, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The Apes in the new movie will be created with the help of CGI technology by WETA Digital. In the other movies of the franchise, the apes were played by actors dressed in costumes.
Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark will produce the movie for Fox, and Rupert Wyatt ( The Escapist ) will be the director. The script is written by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa.
In this new movie, the experiments made by people in genetics lead to the development of the apes intellect, and thus starting a real war for supremacy.
The original movie, released in 1968, with Charlton Heson in the main role, was a big hit. The movie told the story of an astronaut that reached a planet populated only by Apes and where people were used as slaves. Other four movies were made, based on this story, among which we mention the one made by Tim Burton in 2001, which is actually a remake of the 1968 movie.
