Audi, BMW, Daimler, Porsche and Volkswagen have embarked in the race to determine the required specifications regarding the implementation of mobile applications in cars.

Along with Nokia, the five auto makers have released a package of technical specifications named Terminal mode, that wants to be transformed into a standard of integrating mobile applications. Terminal mode is available for all auto manufacturers and mobile devices manufacturers.

Claiming that the average person spends 1-2 hours in the car, Nokia declared that the next logical step would be the one of connecting mobile phones with cars. This way, services and phone content will be able to be fully integrated with the car’s speakers, displays and control systems.

As an example, we could access phone files, music or applications, with the help of a handset in the car. But the connection needs to be able to be done the other way around too, so that the driver will be able to access with the help of the phone the details about the car.
