Natalie Hershlag born on 1981 in Jerusalem, Israel. Her maternal ancestors were from Austria and Russia and on her paternal side from Poland and Romania. Her grandparents on her father’s side died in Auschwitz and her romanian grand grandmother was a spy for the British during the World War II.
Natalie moved with her parents to New York when she was three years old. At the age of four she started to take dancing lessons and to play in local theater plays. When she was 10 years old Revolon asked her to become a model child but her parents refused because they wanted Natalie to focus on acting. In 1994 she went to an audition for the role of a child that shares a friendship with a contract killer, in the movie directed by Luc Besson, Leon. At only 16 years old Natalie goes on Broadway in the The Diary of Anne Frank play, the actress playing the main role. She then receives a role in the Anywhere but here movie which she initially declines because of some sex scenes. The leading actress of the movie, Susan Sarandon and the director ask for the script to be rewritten and Natalie accepts it. For her role, Natalie receives a Golden Globe nomination for best actress in a supporting role.
In 1999 Natalie becomes world wide famous after she plays Padme Amidala in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. She also appears in the next Star Wars movies.
In her next movie, Where the heart is, Natalie appears with a little belly, that’s because her character is a pregnant teenager.
After this movie, Natalie Portman starts college at Harvard and announces that in the next four years she will only appear in Star Wars sequels.
