Alicia Keys, on her real name Alicia J. Augello-Cook, was born on January 25, 1981, in Manhattan, becoming from a young age one of the most popular R&B American singers.
Besides the voice skills that she has, she also has experience in playing the piano but also in the movie industry. She sold more than 30 million albums world wide and won many awards among which 11 Grammy Awards, 17 Billboard Music Awards and three American Music Awards.
Alicia Keys said that her childhood is the most important part of her life, then it was the first time she “met” the biggest composers of that time, like Beethoven, Mozart and her favorite, Chopin. Her debut album ” Songs In a Mirror”, released on June 5, 2001, was an international success, being sold in more than 11 million copies.
The album received five Grammy Awards in 2002, the artist winning the ” Best Singer” award and also the ” Best song of the year” award for the “Falling” song.
Other songs from the same album, like “A Woman’s Worth”, “How Come You Don’t Call Me?” or “Girlfriend”, immediately occupied the first places in the United States tops.
Her second Album, was released on December 2, 2003, winning its’ popularity in the first week since the release, being sold in more no less and no more than 618.000 copies. The album contains 4 prestigious songs and 4 hits: “You Don’t Know My Name”, “If I Ain’t Got You”, “Diary”, “Karma”. In 2004, the singer also won the “Best R&B Video” award with the ” If I Ain’t Got You” song and in 2005 she won the same award for “Karma”, during the MTV Video Music Awards.
On July 14, 2004, at the Brooklyn Musical Academy, Alicia Keys releases the “Unplugged” album and on November 13 2007 the “As I Am” album, which was sold in the first week in more than 742.000 copies. The singer also embraced the movie industry, starring in two movies: Smokin’ Aces and The Nanny Diaries in 2007. In 2008 Alicia Keys participated in the ” As I am ” tour, in Us, Europe and Asia.
