Windows 7 can be easily installed on PC’s that are running let’s say Windows XP or Windows Vista, however we thought that it will be a good idea to show you how to install Windows 7 on an Intel Mac. I think this might be useful to some people.
To install Windows 7 on Apple Mac you will need the following:
- Windows 7 DVD
- Leopard OS X Install kit DVD
- 16 GB free hard disk space
- a backup of all your files stored on Mac ( this is very important )
After you have checked each item on the above list ( please check them all ) please also check to see if you have all the latest updates installed, especially for firmware ( Apple Button > Software Updates ) then close all the open applications.
Click on Finder and go to Applications > Utilities and open Boot Camp Assistant
In the open window click on Continue, then create the Windows 7 partition ( click and drag ). After you have allotted the required space, click on Partition.
After the partitioning process is completed, you will notice a second BOOTCAMP on your desktop.
Insert the Windows 7 DVD and click on Start Installation.
Before you begin the installation you have to select the partition that you prepared for Windows 7. The install process will continue on it’s own and during this the system will restart a few times. When the first restart happens make sure you remove the Windows 7 DVD, so that your Mac can automatically boot on Windows 7.
After the standard settings ( language, keyboard, time and date, etc ) and updates that will automatically be installed, you have to install the Windows Drivers. Insert the Leopard OS X install kit DVD and select Run Setup.exe. In the open window ( Boot camp installer ) select Next > I accept the Terms, and check Apple Software Update for Windows and click Install.
Boot Camp will install the missing drivers, and then a new restart is required.
After the Windows 7 on Mac installation, before every boot you will have the option to choose between the two operating systems you want to use.
