A cybernetic espionage operation with origins in China stole classified documents of the indian security and obtained emails from the Dalai Lama office, according to an investigation that lasted for 8 months.
Hackers used online services, like Twitter, Yahoo groups and Yahoo Mail, The companies systems were not compromised but their services were used to send instructions to the compromise computer, which eventually received commands from servers in Chongqing. The email addresses obtained by investigators were also related to people from Chengdu
The hackers penetrated many government networks, embassies, international organizations, and stole confidential data and private documents, according to a report of the American and Canadian researchers from the Toronto University.
It also shows that the hackers might not be political motivated and it’s possible that this may be an operation of another Government, undercover.
Hackers stole government information among which security analysis of some sensible regions and documents about the country’s relationship with other countries. They obtained reports about the Indian missle systems and they stole the emails dating a year back from the Dalai Lama office. Details about people, including traveling details and banking documents were also compromised.
