It is a special occasion when you witness a spectacular event and you manage to capture that image or scene because you were at the right place in the right time, having a video camera with you. Natural disasters and inexplicable phenomenons don’t happen everywhere and often, but, even so, there are some videos of these events. The evolution of the latest 20 years of photo-video technology has made possible the capture and sharing with everybody of amazing and stunning events. 10. Tsunami Surfing
Mike Parsons is one of the most impressive athletes of the planet. An amazing surfer, the 45 years old man is one of the best in this sport, who is also his bread and butter. Mike become famos especially due to this video, who shows him riding his surf board in incredible situations, near the Jaws Beach in Hawaii.
The event was captured on camera from the helicopter and it’s entirely real. At that time, he held the record for the biggest wave ever to surf on, but Parson broke his own record, a year later, in 2008 at Cortes Bank. 9. Mythbusters – Helium and Sulfur Hexafluoride
It’s about a very simple experiment, but with a huge impact, explained on the TV show MythBusters on Discovery Channel. Everyone knows what the effects of helium are, the voice gets thinder for a few seconds. The phenomenon is explained by the fact that being six times lighter than air, helium allows sound to travel much faster, which makes it thin. Adam Savage decided to see what happens with you inhale sulfur, which is heavier than air and thus having a reverse effect. In other words, the voice will change, it will sound like a recording playing in slow-motion. The experiment is, indeed, amazing.
8. Flight 961 Airplane crash.
Ethiopian flight 961 was hijacked on November 23, 1996 by three Ethiopians who wanted to get political asylum. With a fake bomb, the attackers wanted the plane to change course to Australia. The pilot explained that there is not enough fuel for that route, but they ignored him and forced the plane to go over the Indiana Ocean, close to Grand Comoro island.
When the plane tried to land, it was hit which made the plane go left and break itself. Tragically, 125 passengers from 175 , including the crew, died following the accident. A tourist recorded the event, believing that this is an air show. This might be one of the most clearer and troubling crash of a plane ever caught on camera.
6. Ghost car
One night, the Garden City, USA police, was in pursuit of a suspicious car. The car was moving chaotically and refused to pull over at the demands of the police that were in pursuit. In the video, it looks to accelerate and slow very rapidly and at crazy speeds. During the pursuit, the car enters a parking lot and all of this seems to be over.
Suddenly, the car turns to the parking lot fence and, mysteriously it appears to be going through it without touching it. All that is left to see is the car’s taillights. There are no signs of collision left at the fence level or around it. The police car stops and the ghost car is never located. Supernatural or not, the event is impressive.
5. Christian The Lion
In 1969, John Rendall and Anthony Bourke bought a lion cub from Harrods store in London. They named it Christian and raised it for a year, before releasing him into the wild. After they found out that the young lion successfully adapted to it’s natural habitat the two men started an expedition to Kenya, to meet the lion that was once theirs. This happened one year after the lion was estranged, and they were accompanied but a TV crew specialized in documentaries.
Many have warned Bourke and Rendal that the lion won’t remember them. The meeting that took place goes directly to the heart of all animal lovers. Christian gets prudently closer, then, it throws himself at the arms of the two man. The documentary also shows to female lions and a bigger cub showing a friendly behavior towards their human visitors.
4. Challenger Explosion
It was the 25th official launch of a space shuttle made by the United States and the 10th space travel of the Challenger. It was a special mission, which had on board Christa McAuliffe, the winner of the contest held by NASA. The Challenger’s mission was delayed many times, before it was set for 28 January, 1986.
73 seconds after take off, Challenger exploded, causing the death of all 7 members of the crew. It was established later that the accident occurred due to an error of the right thruster of the shuttle. It represented one of the most tragical accidents in the history of the United States and was videotaped live by television.
3. Paul Potts sings Nessun Dorma
Paul Potts is a british tenor in from Great Britain who won the first series of the Britain’s got Talent show. before this competition he was just a mobile phones salesman.This video shows him play the Nessun Dorma.
It’s about one of the most popular videos in YouTube history. After he won the contest, Potts went on a world tour, singing 97 concerts in 85 cities from 23 countries. His first album, Once Chance, wn many platinum disks. Potts went on the first place in 13 musical tops world wide. Something similar als happened with Susan Boyle.
2. Kruger Battle
You know for sure that a video posted on YouTube has became famous when it has it’s own page on Wikipedia. This is the case with the Kruger Battle. The scene was filmed in September 2006, close to Kruger National Park, in South Africa.
It presents an epic real life battle between a pack of lions, two crocodiles and other animals. All starts with the attack of the lions. While the lions tried to finish killing their pray, a crocodile comes into the scene. The lion grab the crocodile out of the water, however they were attacked by other animals. It’s an amazing video, which shows very eloquently how animals survive.
1. Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004.
On December 26, 2004, an earthquake with 9.3 magnitude on the Richter scale hit the western coast of the Sumatra island. What followed was a devastating tsunami who swept the biggest part of the Indian Ocean coasts.
It represented one of the most destructive natural disasters ever recoded in history and more than 225.000 people were killed in 11 countries. The most affected areas were Indonezia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand. On the internet we could have seen a lot of sad and scary images of the tsunami while it was devastating coastal regions. Beaches and touristic aattraction were the first ones to be hit. The video is a compilation, a sad compilation.
