Historians in England will be able to use a search engine designed especially for them, The search engine, named Connected History, will create a link between separate databases. This can provide a massive resource for historians.

” There are many digital sources created by universities or companies. What we want to do is to unite all these sources and create a space where we can search for information, this will reduce our research time. We want to create a google-like search engine for historians” said Robert Shoemaker, professor at the University of Sheffield.

The search engines will index content from digital volumes ( newspapers, maps and images ) which date from 1500-1900. The representatives of 12 institutions, among which Sheffield University, The Institute of Historical Research, Hertfordshire University and King’s College from London have already offered to contribute with content for this project.

” We intend to become an important source of information for people looking to find out more about England’s History” also said Shoemaker. The project’s first step will be finished in March, 2011.
